A Brief Overview On Celebrity Roasts

A roast is an event in which people gather together to honor someone. This is typically a party or gathering where people toast the honoree by sharing some insight or anecdote about them. This can be a humorous story or joke, or can be more personal. A roast is usually put on to commemorate an event or anniversary. Retirement is one event that seems to inspire a lot of roasts. Wedding anniversaries can be another. Whatever the reason, it is a chance for friends and family to get together and share memories. A good roast can be a fun time for all.

Roasts like this can be traced back to ancient times, when it was customary to give long winded speeches before meals. Back then any occasion seemed a good occasion to raise a glass and make a speech. Since then the tradition has evolved to what we can now see on Comedy Central.

Roasts have become a tradition in places like the New York Friar's Club. The Friar's Club has been holding celebrity roasts since the early nineteen hundreds. This used to be quite an exclusive and private affair. It is only recently the Friar's Club decided to start televising some of their roasts. Some of the more private parties that have been held there have been deemed too graphic for television.

Comedy Central brought the idea of celebrity roasts back to the public eye. What had been a largely private and mostly forgotten tradition received a new lease on life when the comedy network aired several celebrity roasts from the Friar's club. These shows were very popular with the public. These shows have featured people like Jeff Foxworthy, Pamela Anderson, and Donald Trump to name a few. Needless to say the Anderson episode was the most watched for its time slot when it aired.

Comedy Central wasn't the first network to do this. Dean Martin hosted several celebrity roasts as part of show in the seventies. After that the network hosted several more in the MGM Hotel in Las Vegas. The idea in itself was novel, but the morals of the day led to some pretty lame and restrictive humor. As a result the public got bored and stopped watching eventually.

There are still celebrity roasts held at the Friar's Club on a regular basis. Comedy Central still sometimes airs these, other times they have held their own. Some other popular people featured on these shows have been Joan Rivers, William Shatner, Chevy Chase, Hugh Hefner and Charlie Sheen. There is also a British spin-off show that is catching on over there. It can be interesting and definitely humorous to see how you look through the eyes of other people.

7 Celebrity Sayings We All Use

Yes, they've even infiltrated our speech, and got their own little sayings into the common vernacular. Some phrases of the rich and famous have even been entered into the dictionary such is their commonality. Here are a few that we've all come to know and 'love'...

"Taking Care of Business" - Elvis Presley

It isn't just the new kids appropriating phrases, this one pretty much became Elvis's signature and later became the logo for his business interests. The brand image features a lightning strike and the letters TCB. If you take a trip around Graceland you'll see the logo in his den and on the tail of his private jet. Love it, uh-huh!

"You're Fired" - Donald Trump

Spawned for the reality TV show The Apprentice, this phrase has been repeated globally as the show has been franchised across the planet. Trump though being the originator of the saying that concludes contestants' participation tried to copyright it, he failed.

"Fo Shizzle" - Snoop Doggy Dogg

Not just a saying more an entire dialect. Simple though it is, replacing the end of any word with 'izzle' is a fun and familiar practice thanks to the Dogfather. Fo shizzle it was quizzle to sizzle (For sure it was quarter to six).

"Yeah Boyee" - Flavor Flav

This is another entry from the rap world, this time Public Enemy's hype man, Flavor Flav. As part of his act to get the crowd going Flav would scream 'yeah boyee'. It is used now to indicate satisfaction, or a win of some kind. To celebrate his 50th birthday Flav recorded the longest ever 'yeah boyee' such is his continuing association with the phrase. I'll let you find out for yourself just how long it was.

"That's Hot" - Paris Hilton

Love her or hate her, you can't deny the infiltration into modern dialect of the term 'that's hot' to imply something is 'cool', is that irony? And she managed to get a bit further than Trump too, Paris actually trademarked the saying!

"Bootylicious" - Destiny's Child

Ok so here's a fact. Snoop is responsible for this one too! However in 2001, nine years after Snoop's use of it, the women of DC changed its meaning from 'weak' to something along the lines of 'voluptuous toosh' when they used it as a title for one of their many hits. Beyonce, can you handle this... ooh, err.

"I'll Be Back" - Arnold Schwarzenegger

This might be an oldie, but it's a goodie. This wasn't something that was lost on Arnold as he worked the campaign trail to become governor of California, rehashing many of his quips into his political rhetoric including this one. It's a classic, you can't be mad at him...

Snakes and Celebrity marriages

I read the football player, whose celebrity on top of him, leaving his wife was standing infidelity difficult marriage recently. It was quite a celebrity marriage as necessarily brouhaha problems. I believe that we can rely on the people in the public eye is the perfect way, they are idolised marriages. Because of this, their marriage should fare better than mere mortals such as me. Later it was found that the wife did not want to leave her husband but felt pressured if instructed to do so by the force of public opinion. His only wish was to be the perfect wife and mother. He was clearly drunk public opinion in the Kool-Aid and assume that a complete "no" it is also possible.
Marriage is hard or so I hear, never having personally experienced the blissful state of ... It also requires two things; secure a woman, and having grown up man. I think many of the marriage fails, because it does not have two factors. Lack of a woman, even though they are also the most unattractive, on the contrary, never listen to others, leads tend to when she really should be following its own Council and listen to my heart. The heart never lies. It knows every time, if you need to go. But insecurity leads to distrust; Similarly, other than itself-and so you can listen to when the ' advice ' you to do so, regardless of what their family relations, as could be. According to marry the son, which will aggravate that does not fully any interest maturing man and what you have to contribute to a recipe.
Have you heard the man, who was found frozen snake, and brought the story of his home at OPD fireplace? When the snake had all toasty and warm it turned round and bit the man. And he, very hurt and puzzled asked the snake, why he made it when the man was actually saved his life! And the snake finds him and tells him of his eyes direct dying, "You knew was a snake when you brought me home".
No, this's wife knows who her husband is and wants to continue to him. His eyes wide shut down. If he wants to bring home, snake, which is the whole of his business, it is called free will. At least his dialog reported that is really all you can ask for. The rest of us should just butt out.
